Dhaka, Oct 11 (V7N) – The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has issued arrest warrants against 25 former and current army officers accused of crimes against humanity. Among them, 15 serving officers are already in custody, while one officer remains missing, the army confirmed.

Major General Md. Hakimuzzaman, spokesperson for the Bangladesh Army, disclosed the information at a briefing held at the Army Headquarters on Saturday (October 11).

He said that the army has not yet received an official copy of the arrest warrants issued by the tribunal. “If any officer is accused of serious crimes such as war crimes, explanations will be sought from the concerned authorities, and steps will be taken to consider them dismissed from service immediately,” the spokesperson stated.

Major General Hakimuzzaman further noted that all crimes committed by army personnel over the past 54 years have been tried under the existing army laws.

When asked whether the detained officers would be handed over to the tribunal, he said, “We will take action once we receive the legal explanation from the tribunal. The accused are expected to be produced in court by October 22. We hope to receive the explanation before then.”

He added that the army is fully cooperating with the tribunal in its ongoing proceedings.
