Dhaka, Nov 13 (V7N) — Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has called for the cooperation of all political parties to ensure a fair and credible national election, saying that the Election Commission (EC) alone cannot achieve this without their active participation.

“The Commission will only play the role of a referee. A fair election is not possible without the cooperation of political parties,” the CEC said during a meeting with six registered parties at the EC office on Thursday morning (November 13).

The dialogue marked the beginning of a series of consultations with registered political parties to prepare for the 13th National Parliament election.

Nasir Uddin emphasized that all 54 registered parties are equal in the eyes of the Commission, adding, “None is small, none is big.” He noted that the EC has already received written opinions from several political parties on election-related issues.

Acknowledging that the current political environment is more complex than in previous elections, the CEC said the Commission has significant responsibilities and will rely on constructive advice and consensus from all stakeholders.

He further stated that the EC will begin taking steps to curb electoral irregularities once the official schedule is announced, and urged candidates and parties to remove posters and other campaign materials put up prematurely.
