Mongla, Nov 21 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Navy opened one of its major warships to the public in Mongla on Friday as part of the Armed Forces Day celebrations. From noon until late afternoon, visitors were allowed to board BNS Abu Bakar, anchored at the jetty of the Digraj Naval Base.

Crowds of people from all walks of life, including families, students and children, gathered to explore the vessel. Naval sailors guided visitors through different sections of the warship and explained the functions of its operational systems and equipment. Visitors expressed delight at the rare opportunity to view a frontline naval asset up close.

The Digraj Naval Base observed Armed Forces Day with a series of programmes from the morning. Special prayers were offered at the base mosque seeking blessings for the departed souls of the Liberation War martyrs, as well as the continued peace, prosperity and progress of the nation and the armed forces.

A reception was also held in honour of the gallantry award–winning freedom fighters from Bagerhat district, along with serving and retired armed forces personnel and their families.
