Dhaka, Nov 26 (V7N) — Protesters have declared a boycott of the 47th BCS written examination scheduled to begin tomorrow, Thursday (November 27). The announcement was made on Wednesday afternoon in front of Madhur Canteen at Dhaka University.
“We are victims of fraud. The top levels of the government wasted our time with promises but provided no solution,” the protesters said. “We have boycotted the 47th BCS written exam. We want to see how many candidates actually sit for it. If the majority abstain, we will demand that the post-election political government re-organize the exam.”
Earlier, the agitating candidates had given an ultimatum until 11 am today (Wednesday) to postpone the written examination. They also warned of launching a blockade program if their demands were ignored.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday afternoon, candidates marched from the National Shaheed Minar toward the Jamuna area. They were stopped by police in front of the Shahbagh National Museum, leading to clashes. Police fired teargas, used water cannons, and conducted baton charges. Several candidates were injured. Various political parties and organizations later issued statements condemning the incident.
The protesters claim that candidates in previous BCS exams received six months to one year to prepare for the written phase, whereas this time, less than two months have been allotted—an “unreasonable decision,” according to them.
The 47th BCS written examination is scheduled to begin tomorrow (November 27) and will be held simultaneously in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chittagong, Khulna, Barisal, Sylhet, Rangpur, and Mymensingh centers. The written exams for technical and professional cadres will continue until December 18.
