Dhaka, Nov 29 (V7N) — More than two million taxpayers have filed their e-returns online so far in the current 2025-26 tax year, the Public Relations Department of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) confirmed on Saturday.

According to the NBR, taxpayers have responded enthusiastically since the e-return filing program was launched on August 4 by Financial Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed through www.etaxnbr.gov.bd.

This year, the NBR has made it mandatory for most categories of taxpayers to file their income tax returns online. However, filing online is not mandatory for taxpayers aged 65 or above, those who are physically disabled or with special needs, Bangladeshi citizens living abroad, legal representatives of deceased taxpayers, and foreign nationals working in Bangladesh. These groups may file online voluntarily if they wish.

Taxpayers facing issues with e-return registration can apply to the concerned Excise Commissioner by December 15, providing justification, and may submit paper returns if approved. Authorized representatives can also file returns online on behalf of taxpayers. Expatriate Bangladeshis can submit information via email to receive an OTP and registration link for easy e-return filing.

The e-return process requires no document uploads, and taxpayers can pay taxes via debit/credit cards, internet banking, and mobile financial services. After filing, automatic acknowledgement slips and income tax certificates can be printed immediately, increasing the system’s popularity.

To assist taxpayers, the NBR has launched a call center (09643 71 71 71), eTax Service support on the website, and e-return help desks across the country.

The NBR has requested all individual taxpayers to file their e-returns by December 31, 2025.
