Dhaka, Dec 03 (V7N) – Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur announced that the country’s small entrepreneurs will soon be able to access international payment systems, including PayPal, which will help expand the market for their products.
He made the remarks during a workshop organized by the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) on Wednesday morning.
Dr. Mansur highlighted that Bangladesh Bank has set up a refinancing fund of 25,000 crore taka to provide loans to small entrepreneurs. However, he noted that the funds have not been effectively distributed due to various obstacles. He emphasized that marketing arrangements should be made before production to ensure business success.
Industry Advisor Adilur Rahman added that small entrepreneurs make a significant contribution to national development but are not given adequate importance. He called for resolving the complications in distributing collateral-free loans to support these entrepreneurs.
Currently, around 150,000 small entrepreneurs are registered with BSCIC. In addition, hundreds of thousands of other small businesses across the country produce handicrafts, food, clothing, and other products. Their biggest challenge remains marketing, which the new initiatives aim to address.
