Dhaka, Jan 19 (V7N) — The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is investigating whether nomination trading is occurring in the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections, Director General Akhter Hossain said on Monday.
In a briefing, Akhter Hossain stated that the ACC will take serious action if credible allegations of nomination trading are brought forward.
The ACC has previously filed a case against former Jatiya Party Secretary General Mashiur Rahman Ranga and Jatiya Party candidate from Kurigram-2, Punir Uddin Ahmed, for alleged nomination trading during the 12th national election. According to the case, Ranga allegedly took a bribe of Tk 1.7 million to secure Ahmed’s nomination, while Ahmed is also accused of paying the bribe.
Separately, the ACC has filed a charge sheet against former State Minister for Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahmed. He is accused of illegal wealth acquisition of Tk 3.83 crore and unusual financial transactions exceeding Tk 42 crore in a case filed in Mymensingh.
Akhter Hossain emphasized that the commission remains vigilant and will act promptly against any corruption or illegal activities related to the electoral process.
