Dhaka, Feb 1 (V7N) — Overseas voters registered through the ‘Postal Vote BD’ app for the 13th National Parliamentary Election and national referendum have started sending their ballots to Bangladesh. So far, a total of 139,763 ballots from expatriate voters have arrived in the country.
Salim Ahmad Khan, team leader of the ‘OCV-SDI’ project on expatriate voter registration, provided the information on Friday night. He said that by 3:30 pm on Friday, a total of 766,862 ballot papers had been sent to the registered addresses of overseas voters. Of these, 516,007 voters received their ballots, and 454,587 voters exercised their voting rights. After voting, 406,564 ballots were returned by the voters via the post office or drop boxes in the respective countries.
In addition to expatriates, postal ballots have also been distributed to voters residing inside Bangladesh.
According to the Election Commission (EC), a total of 269,000 voters registered domestically through the ‘Postal Vote BD’ app (ICPV) were sent postal ballots. By 3:30 pm on Friday, 3,748 ballots had been received by domestic voters. Among them, 2,422 voters cast their votes, and 1,149 voters returned their ballots via post office or drop boxes.
Salim Ahmad Khan further stated that a total of 1,533,684 voters, both inside the country and abroad, have registered through the ‘Postal Vote BD’ app to participate in the 13th National Parliamentary Election and national referendum.
