Dhaka, Feb 19 (V7N) — The BNP-led government has decided to launch the Family Card as a pilot project before Eid, targeting extremely poor families first, officials said on Thursday.

Key Details

  • Minister for Fisheries, Livestock, Agriculture and Food Mohammad Amin-ur Rashid said that several districts and upazilas have been identified for the pilot phase. The program will be extended in phases to cover more families.

  • The Family Card will initially provide cash support to women from extremely poor families, ensuring financial aid reaches those most in need. The exact number of initial beneficiaries is expected to be finalized within a day or two.

  • Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan added that a committee will be formed under the leadership of the Finance Minister to implement the program.

  • The program will prioritize unemployed women and widows in the first phase, before gradually expanding to cover more people. The exact amount of money per beneficiary has not yet been decided.

This initiative is part of the government’s broader social welfare plan, aiming to provide direct financial support to vulnerable families and ensure economic assistance reaches the grassroots level.
