Dhaka, Feb 26 (V7N)- Mohammad Mostakur Rahman has officially assumed office as the 14th Governor of Bangladesh Bank, marking a new leadership phase for the country’s central bank.

He took charge on Thursday morning (February 26) and was welcomed by senior officials upon arriving at the bank’s headquarters.

Appointment Notification

According to a notification issued on Wednesday (Feb 25) by the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance, Mostakur Rahman has been appointed for a four-year term from the date of joining.

The notification states that he must relinquish all employment ties with other institutions and will receive salary, allowances, and benefits from Bangladesh Bank as per an agreement with the government.

Professional Background

Mostakur Rahman is widely regarded as an expert in:

  • Corporate finance

  • Export and trade economics

  • Institutional governance

  • Financial management

He earned a master’s degree in accounting from Dhaka University in 1987 and is a Fellow of ICMAB. He also previously served as a board member of the Chittagong Stock Exchange.

Administrative Changes

Following his appointment, several internal reshuffles were made, including transfers to the posts of director and additional director, along with changes in the governor’s secretariat.

The appointment comes at a time when the central bank faces key policy and financial sector challenges, with expectations of strengthened governance and stability under the new leadership.
