The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) announced a noteworthy interception of smuggled commodities, guns, and drugs worth Tk 162.19 crore during the month of March, marking a decisive win against cross-border criminal operations. The nationwide and border operation produced a large amount of illegal goods, demonstrating the efficacy of BGB's anti-smuggling initiatives.
BGB's Public Relations Officer, Md Shariful Islam, disclosed the details of the seizure, which included a diverse array of contraband. Among the seized items were 18.18kg of gold, 10.550kg of silver, and a staggering quantity of goods ranging from cosmetics to readymade garments. Additionally, the confiscation extended to vehicles used in smuggling operations, including trucks, vans, boats, and motorcycles.
The interception also revealed a concerning presence of weapons and ammunition, including a pistol, a LG, and rounds of bullets, emphasizing the potential security threats posed by smuggling networks. Moreover, the seizure of a large quantity of narcotics highlighted the multifaceted nature of illicit activities targeted by BGB, with the confiscation of yaba pills, crystal meth, heroin, marijuana, and various pharmaceuticals.
In a decisive move, BGB apprehended 131 individuals involved in drug trafficking, while also detaining numerous individuals, including Bangladeshi nationals, Indians, and Myanmar citizens, for illegal border crossings. Legal actions have been initiated against the apprehended individuals, underscoring the commitment of BGB in curbing transnational criminal activities and safeguarding national security.
