Sylhet city is grappling with persistent power outages, severely impacting daily life and business operations as Eid-ul-Fitr approaches. The shortage in power supply has led to frequent load shedding, disrupting water distribution and causing inconvenience during crucial times like Sehri and Iftar.

In recent days, Sylhet city has faced significant disparities between electricity demand and supply, with demand ranging from 120-160 MW against a supply deficit of 40-70 MW. The Sylhet Power Development Board reports show alarming figures, such as a supply of only 56 MW against a demand of 141 MW on April 2.

Traders preparing for the upcoming festive season of Eid-ul-Fitr have been adversely affected by the power cuts, relying on generators to sustain business operations amid outages. Residents, like Airin Sultana Nipa from Lala Dighirpar, highlight the challenges of water shortages during critical times due to dawn-time power cuts.

Zakir Ahmed, a local trader from Golapganj, expressed concern over worsening conditions as summer intensifies, emphasizing the impact on general people and businesses.

Assistant Engineer Jarjisur Rahman Rony from the Sylhet Power Development Board attributes the crisis to broader economic challenges affecting power generation, including the dollar and coal crisis. Despite efforts to distribute electricity efficiently, the city continues to grapple with persistent outages, adversely affecting residents and traders alike.
