The Newspapers Owners Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) has announced a six-day Eid holiday for journalists and other officials working in the newspaper sector, starting from April 9. This decision aligns with the traditional general holidays observed for Eid-ul-Fitr.
Depending on the duration of Ramadan, which determines the date of Eid-ul-Fitr, April 10-12 will be official government holidays. If Ramadan lasts for 30 days, Eid will be observed on April 10, with the holiday period commencing on April 9.
Additionally, NOAB has declared April 14 as a holiday in observance of Pohela Boishakh, leading to the non-publication of newspapers on April 15.
The Newspaper Hawkers' Multipurpose Cooperative Society has expressed concerns about potential service delays, especially with Pohela Baishakh falling immediately after Eid.
Responding to requests from the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), NOAB has decided to declare April 13 a special holiday, resulting in a six-day holiday break for journalists.
