Alamgir Hossain from the Daily Shomoyer Alo and Ahamed Ullah from Bangladesh Post have been elected as the president and general secretary, respectively, of the Defence Journalists Association of Bangladesh (DJAB) for a two-year term.
DJAB is a professional organization comprising journalists specializing in defence and security reporting in Bangladesh.
Established with the objective of promoting excellence in defence journalism and advocating for transparency and accountability in matters concerning national security, DJAB has been a platform for journalists to exchange ideas, collaborate on stories, and advocate for press freedom in defence reporting since its inception in 2014.
Shukkur Ali Shuvo, the chief election commissioner of DJAB's Election Steering Committee and president of Dhaka Reporters' Unity, officially announced the newly elected members at a restaurant in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.
The other members of the 13-member DJAB Executive Committee include Tariqul Islam Masoom from Channel I as vice president, Kazi Shohag from the daily Manabzamin as joint general secretary, Jamal Uddin from Bangla Tribune as finance secretary, Meraz Mizu from Desh TV as organizing secretary, Ismail Hossain Emu from AmaderShomoy.com as office secretary, Kamal Hossain Talukder from Bdnews24.com as publicity and publication secretary, Ali Asif Shawon from Dhaka Tribune as research and training secretary, Sazzad Mahmud Khan from Dainik Amader Shomoy as sports and cultural secretary, along with three executive members M M Badsha, Arifur Rahman Rabbi, and Rakibul Hasan.
Ali Asif Shawon, the Chief Reporter of Dhaka Tribune, was a central executive committee member of the outgoing DJAB committee.
The election was conducted following the association's annual general meeting.
