Despite having required documents, up to 4,000 Bangladeshi migrant workers could not travel to Malaysia due to a lack of air tickets, reported Baira on Saturday.
Baira Secretary General Ali Haider Chowdhury estimated that around 3,000-4,000 workers missed their flights, as they could not secure tickets by the deadline of May 31.
On Friday, hundreds of Malaysia-bound workers faced uncertainty at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport due to the lack of tickets. Local recruitment agents had assured tickets, but many workers were left stranded.
Malaysian authorities had announced a ban on workers from Bangladesh and 13 other countries entering after May 31. Between August 2022 and April this year, nearly 450,000 Bangladeshi workers traveled to Malaysia.
