Ukhiya, June 4 (V7N Dhaka) — The President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Mrs. Kate Forbes, visited the Rohingya refugee camps in Ukhiya on Tuesday, June 4th. She arrived at Camp 11 around 11 AM.

Accompanying Mrs. Forbes were Professor Dr. Obaidul Kabir Chowdhury, Chairman of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, and Vice Chairman Lutfur Rahman Chowdhury Helal. They were joined by a ten-member team from the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society as they toured various Rohingya camps.

Upon arrival at Camp 11, Mrs. Forbes engaged in discussions with the camp in-charge about the overall situation. Following the meeting, she distributed clothes, soap, and other essentials to children at the camp's distribution center. She then visited the Rohingya shelters provided by their organization in Block C.

At around 12:30 PM, the delegation visited the primary healthcare hospital in Camp 12 and inspected the water distribution center there. Subsequently, at 1:15 PM, they toured the MRR Center, jointly operated with UNHCR, in Camp 4.

By 2 PM, Mrs. Forbes visited the Red Crescent field hospital in the transit camp, where she also had lunch. She concluded her visit and departed for Cox's Bazar at 3 PM.

Mrs. Forbes' visit underscores the ongoing efforts and commitment of the IFRC and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society to support the Rohingya refugees, providing essential services and assessing the needs on the ground to enhance their humanitarian response.
