Veteran diplomat and former Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Muchkund Dubey, passed away on Wednesday in New Delhi at the age of 90 due to age-related ailments. Starting his career as a lecturer in economics, Dubey joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1957, later serving as High Commissioner to Bangladesh (1979-1982) and as the Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva.
Dubey, a connoisseur of Bangladeshi music and poetry, authored a book on mystic poet Lalon in Hindi and translated works of Rabindranath Tagore, Shamsur Rahman, and Nirmalendu Goon. Post-retirement, he taught at Jawaharlal Nehru University and served as President of the Council for Social Development (CSD). His funeral will be held at Lodhi Road Crematorium.
