Major General Md Ashraful Islam, Chairman of the Bangladesh Tea Board, announced that the board consistently meets domestic tea demand and exports surplus tea. Currently, Bangladesh produces 103 million kg of tea against a domestic demand of 95 million kg. Speaking at an open tea-tasting event at the Sreemangal Tea Research Center in Moulvibazar, he thanked all those involved in the tea sector for their efforts.
This year’s Tea Day theme was "Tea Day Commitment - Export-Oriented Tea Industry." Major General Islam emphasized the need to improve tea quality to boost exports, stressing the importance of fair pricing and fair wages in the industry. He also highlighted various training programs and initiatives to produce high-quality, value-added tea, in line with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s vision.
The tea production target for 2024 is set at 108 million kilograms, with optimism about meeting this goal despite a slow start to the tea season.
