Kurigram, July 11 (V7N)- "In Chilmari, Kurigram, on behalf of the area, reported that approximately 400 families in a single ward are currently dealing with flooding. However, only 40 families have received relief aid so far, distributed on two occasions just before and two days prior to the flooding.
In Ward 3 of Ramna Model Union, specifically Harinherban and Sonari Para, roads remain submerged. A majority of the ward's population, numbering over 400 families, have settled there.
During a visit to Sarejmin, it was observed that roads are still flooded in parts, with water levels reaching knee-high in some areas. Despite receding in certain places, most households are still affected. Over the past five to six days, more than 400 families have experienced waterlogging, even as the Brahmaputra River's water levels are dropping. It is anticipated that the area will remain inundated for several more weeks.
Rafiqul Islam, a local UP member, stated that nearly 400 families are impacted by the floods. Despite providing emergency assistance to only 40 families twice, further aid is constrained by limited resources.
Residents such as Rina, Anicha, Rahima, and Marjina Begum have expressed concerns over the past five to six days about water entering their homes, causing difficulties, particularly for children and cooking. They mentioned unsuccessful attempts to find assistance, with water remaining unavailable at roadside taps and homes surrounded by floodwaters.
They also noted that it could take several weeks for water levels to naturally recede.
Mosharraf Hossain, overseeing project implementation, confirmed that emergency relief will be provided to 50 families in the area later today."
