Dhaka, July 28 — The Dhaka Metropolitan Detective (DB) Police have taken two additional coordinators of the quota reform movement into custody. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) spokesperson confirmed that Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah were taken into DB custody on Saturday evening.

The DMP spokesperson stated that Alam and Abdullah were taken into custody to address concerns about their personal security and to inquire about recent developments related to the quota reform movement. This follows the earlier custody of three other coordinators, Dhaka University students Nahid Islam, Asif Mahmud, and Abu Bakr Majumdar.

Statements from Law Enforcement

DB chief Harun Or Rashid explained that the three students were taken into custody on Friday night after expressing feelings of insecurity on various platforms, including Facebook. "As a law enforcement force, if someone speaks of insecurity somewhere, it is our responsibility to provide security to them. That is what we are doing in their case," Harun stated.

Harun further mentioned that the President of the Public Rights Council, Nurul Haque Noor, and other leaders were also questioned in relation to their communication with the coordinators. The authorities aim to understand the nature of these interactions and ensure the safety of the involved individuals.

Home Minister's Comments

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, responding to questions from journalists in Narayanganj, confirmed the custody of the three quota reform movement leaders. He elaborated that one of the coordinators had informed his father about being in hiding for safety. "They spread such news on social media. On receiving such news, I have taken them into safe custody. We are asking them who wants to attack them. I will make a decision after these inquiries," the Home Minister said.

The authorities are continuing their investigations to ensure the safety and security of those involved in the quota reform movement while addressing any potential threats they may face.
