Dhaka, July 31— Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has announced that the government will soon disclose the number of casualties resulting from the recent violence associated with the quota reform movement. He made this statement while addressing reporters at his office in the Secretariat on Wednesday evening.
The minister suggested that the destructive activities during the movement were not spontaneous and hinted at external influences. "Such destructive activities would not have occurred without external advice," he remarked, pointing to possible involvement from behind-the-scenes advisors.
When questioned about potential unrest following the ban on Jamaat-Shibir, the minister attributed the violence to the group. "Jamaat-Shibir has created this situation. They have conspired behind the scenes. Even after meeting the demands of the quota movement, the protests have escalated into violence," he explained.
Minister Kamal emphasized that the violent actions were not solely the result of student protests. "If there were no advisors, the students would not have resorted to such destructive activities. Many have been injured, but were all of them shot by the police? We will reveal the details, including how many were killed and injured, and by whose actions," he stated.
He further alleged that groups such as Jamaat-BNP and other militant organizations were behind the students, manipulating the situation.
The home minister assured that legal actions are being prepared against those responsible for exacerbating the situation. "We are in the process of bringing those responsible for the deterioration of the situation to justice. The public deserves to know who is behind these actions," he concluded.
