Dhaka, Aug 02 (V7N) — Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen has detailed the harrowing events at BTV Bhaban, where attackers inflicted widespread damage and issued death threats to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members, giving them just 15 minutes to say farewell to their families.

Momen, speaking after a briefing with international partners, described how the attackers, many of whom were not students, carried out severe vandalism and threatened BGB personnel. He said the attackers warned the BGB members that they had 15 minutes to "embrace death."

Despite the dire situation, the BGB team, initially hesitant, eventually resorted to firing blanks to protect the key installation (KPI). Momen noted that the BGB leader, facing overwhelming aggression, shot at the attackers' legs to prevent further destruction of BTV Bhaban, which has now been partially safeguarded.

The Foreign Secretary also refuted claims that the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) had fired from helicopters, providing video evidence to the contrary. "We have confirmed that RAB did not fire from helicopters," Momen said.

The briefing included diplomats from 22 countries, who were shown videos and provided with the latest information about the violence. The Foreign Secretary emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the incidents.

Despite Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's assurances of measures to control the unrest, violent activities, incited by the BNP-Jamaat alliance, escalated into severe violence and attacks on critical infrastructure, including public health facilities and national broadcasting centers.

The government reported that these attacks were part of a broader attempt to undermine security gains and disrupt public order.
