The government has issued forced retirement orders for former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman and Special Branch (SB) Chief Monirul Islam, citing reasons of public interest.

The Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs released separate gazette notifications today (13 August) detailing their retirements. According to these notifications, the officers have been retired under Section 45 of the Public Service Act 2018.

The retirement orders are effective immediately, as per the notifications.

Earlier today, Monirul Islam was removed from his position as the SB Chief and reassigned to police headquarters. Similarly, Habibur Rahman was relieved of his duties as DMP Commissioner on 7 August and also attached to police headquarters.
