On Saturday, Professor Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh's Interim Government, virtually participated in the third "Voice of the Global South" Summit, hosted by India.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier extended an invitation to Prof Yunus to attend the summit.

This marks Prof Yunus's first engagement in a multilateral forum since assuming his role as the head of the interim government.

The inaugural session, which is being held at the Head of State/Government level, is hosted by Prime Minister Modi.

The theme for the Leaders’ Session mirrors the summit’s overarching theme, "An Empowered Global South for a Sustainable Future.”

During the session, Prof Yunus conveyed his assurance to Prime Minister Modi that the interim government is committed to safeguarding the rights of minorities. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that this summit is part of Prime Minister Modi's vision of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas aur Sabka Prayas" and is rooted in the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.

The initiative aims to unite countries from the Global South, allowing them to discuss their priorities and perspectives on a shared platform, covering a wide array of issues.

India hosted the inaugural Voice of Global South Summit (VOGSS) on January 12-13, 2023, and the second edition on November 17, 2023, both conducted virtually. These summits saw participation from over 100 countries from the Global South.
