A case has been filed against Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, the former state minister for Shipping, along with 24 leaders and activists, and 75 unnamed individuals, in connection with an attack on a student protest. The case was registered at Bochaganj police station, and Bochaganj Upazila Chairman Afshar Ali was arrested and sent to jail on Saturday, with a remand petition submitted through the court.

Bochaganj police station's Officer-in-Charge (OC), Abu Bakkar Siddique, confirmed the arrest.

Earlier that day, Faisal Mostak, the upazila coordinator, filed the case for involvement in the attack on students protesting on July 18. In a related incident, Upazila Chairman Afshar Ali attempted to file a counter-case against the students on August 16, accusing them of attacking his house and business establishment.

Upon hearing this, students surrounded the police station, demanding Afshar Ali's arrest and his resignation from the chairman's position. The situation was eventually defused with the intervention of the army, after which Afshar Ali announced his resignation.
