Chittagong, August 18 - Farooq-e-Azam, the Advisor on Liberation War Affairs for the interim government, has called for strict action against individuals falsely claiming to be freedom fighters. He made these remarks while addressing the media after a law enforcement meeting at the Chittagong Circuit House on Saturday.

In response to a question from journalists, Farooq-e-Azam emphasized the importance of distinguishing between genuine freedom fighters and those fraudulently claiming the title. "Fake freedom fighters have taken different forms," he said. "After thorough verification, those who are found to be genuine will remain recognized, while those who are not will be removed. They should also be punished for defrauding the state."

He further assured that the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs would lead the verification process. "This will not happen in one day; it is a process that is underway," he added.

Following the briefing, Farooq-e-Azam visited the Kotwali Police Station in Chittagong city, where he interacted with the police officers. He urged the local community to support efforts in restoring normalcy to the affected police stations.

Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner Saiful Islam, Deputy Commissioner Abul Basar Fakhruzzaman, and other senior officials were present during the visit.
