Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury highlighted today (19 August) that the government's foremost challenge is to enhance the law and order situation.

In a press briefing at the secretariat, the adviser stressed the importance of addressing security issues swiftly, while also outlining his dual responsibilities in home affairs and agriculture.

"The primary challenge at the Ministry of Home Affairs is improving law and order. We are committed to resolving this issue as quickly as possible," Chowdhury stated.

He also shared his goals in the agricultural sector, saying, "I aim to boost production to ensure that we can feed more people."

Earlier, the adviser met with UN Resident Coordinator Gwyn Lewis to explore potential support from the United Nations in various sectors.

"Our discussions focused on the types of assistance the UN can offer and the specific areas where we are seeking help," he explained.

Regarding the ongoing Rohingya crisis, Chowdhury mentioned that the government has sought additional support from the UN.

"The Rohingya population continues to grow, with 1.2 million people currently in the country. The costs are increasing, and it's uncertain how long we can sustain this," he remarked.

He further noted that a UN fact-finding mission is expected to visit Bangladesh next week. "We discussed the kind of support they will provide and what assistance we require from them," he added.
