Barisal, Aug 22 (V7N) - A case has been filed against 31 individuals, including key figures from the Barisal District Awami League, at the Barisal Cyber Tribunal. The tribunal judge accepted the case on Tuesday and instructed the Officer-in-Charge of Barisal Sadar Police Station to submit an investigation report by October 9. The complainant, Abu Bakar Siddique, is the President of the Kewrabunia Union Youth League in Barisal Sadar Upazila.
The case alleges that on August 12, after Sheikh Hasina's resignation, Md. Jahangir Kabir recorded and shared a 3-minute phone conversation with the former Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, from his Barisal residence. The video was subsequently disseminated on social media by the accused and others using their phones.
The complaint claims that the accused aimed to jeopardize national integrity, security, and sovereignty, creating fear among the public. Additionally, there are allegations of land grabbing and other misconduct against the accused during the Awami League’s time in power.
The accused individuals include Md. Jahangir Kabir, Abdul Motaleb Mirdha, Golam Kabir, Jubayer Adnan Anik, Shah Mohammad Waliullah Oli, Kabir Hossain, Jamal Hossain, Ruhul Amin Sang Botola, Shahabuddin Sabu, Advocate Akhtaruzzaman Bahadur, Azizul Haque Swapan, Moniruzzaman Jamal, Alamgir Hossain, Mir Arafat Jaman Tushar, Rezaul Karim Reza, Advocate Sunam Debnath, Jalal Orphe Zuta Jalal, Khalilur Rahman, Shipon Jamaddar, Akhtaruzzaman Rakib, Rana Talukdar, Murad, Advocate Humayun Kabir, Shawn Talukdar, Advocate Junayed Jewel, Abul Kalam Azad, Advocate Ashraful Islam Shilpi, Kabir Howlader, Belal Molla, Raihan Molla, and Ripon Dafadar. In response, Advocate Ashraful Islam Shilpi said, “I don’t know the complainant and was not present at the District Awami League General Secretary’s house on August 12. I am unsure why I am listed as an accused. Although I am shown as an Associate Secretary, I am not a member of the District Awami League.”
Advocate Humayun Kabir commented, “My name does not appear on any Awami League committee. I won the position of Chairman in Burirchar Union as an independent candidate, defeating the Awami League nominee in 2021. Please verify whether I was at Md. Jahangir Kabir’s house on August 12. I call for a thorough and fair investigation.”
Barisal Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Dewan Joglul Hasan stated, “We have not yet received the court order copy. Once it is received, we will conduct the investigation and submit the report to the court.”
