Dhaka, Aug 23 (V7N): At least 13 people have lost their lives, and 4.5 million have been affected by severe floods caused by heavy rains across Bangladesh, according to the disaster management ministry.

Md Kamrul Hasan, the ministry's secretary, informed the media on Friday that 11 districts have been impacted by the flooding.

The affected districts include Feni, Comilla, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Brahmanbaria, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Khagrachhari, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, and Habiganj.

A total of 887,629 families have been trapped in floodwaters, according to Kamrul.

Among the deceased, four were from Comilla, three from Cox's Bazar, two from Chittagong, and one each from Feni, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, and Brahmanbaria.

Kamrul mentioned that weather forecasts indicate a gradual improvement in the flood situation.

He also reported that 188,739 people have taken refuge in shelter centers, and the flood-affected regions have received a total allocation of Tk3.52 crore in cash, 20,150 tons of rice, and 15,000 packets of dry food.

Kamrul added that rescue operations in the flood-hit areas are being carried out by the army, navy, coast guard, BGB, fire service, police, and students.
