Feni, August 24 — Vast areas of the south-eastern region of Bangladesh are severely affected by floods, with Feni being one of the worst-hit districts. The continuous flooding has led to widespread power outages, causing almost all mobile network towers in the area to shut down. In response, mobile operators are striving to keep the towers operational using generators.

To address the crisis, Nahid Islam, the Post, Telecommunication, and Information Technology Adviser, has issued an urgent directive for the provision of free diesel to power the generators and maintain mobile network connectivity in Feni district. This directive was announced on Saturday, August 24, through a press release issued by Muhammad Jasim Uddin, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, at around 2 pm.

The press release emphasized that due to the lack of electricity, a significant amount of diesel is required to keep 78 mobile network towers in Feni district operational. Maintaining these mobile networks is crucial during the flood situation to ensure communication lines remain open for emergency and relief operations.

The funding for this emergency diesel supply is being provided by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) under the guidance of the Post, Telecommunication, and Information Technology Adviser. This measure is part of a broader effort to mitigate the impact of the floods on essential services in the affected regions.
