Dhaka, Aug 28 (V7N): Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has proposed that no individual should hold the roles of prime minister, party leader, and parliamentary leader simultaneously, and has recommended a two-term limit for the position of prime minister.

These recommendations were made during a press conference at TIB's Dhaka office on Wednesday, under the theme "New Bangladesh: Steps for Establishing Democracy, Good Governance, and Preventing Corruption through an Interim Government."

To ensure that national parliamentary elections are free, fair, and inclusive, TIB has suggested the implementation of a non-partisan interim government.

To prevent conflicts of interest, TIB recommends that the Speaker of Parliament should remain independent of party influence. Additionally, the Deputy Speaker should be chosen from the opposition, and in the absence of both the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, opposition members from the Presidium should be allowed to act as Speaker.

TIB also calls for opposition members to chair at least 50% of the key parliamentary committees, including those related to government accounts, law and justice, finance, trade, home affairs, energy, and defense.

The organization advocates for a diverse representation in parliamentary candidate nominations, urging political parties to nominate at least one-third of their candidates from youth, women, indigenous peoples, and other marginalized groups.

Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, TIB's executive director, emphasized the need to ensure accountability for severe human rights violations and maintain the integrity of the judicial process. He also stressed the importance of enhancing peace, public safety, and administrative stability in the country.

These proposals are aimed at strengthening the democratic process and ensuring that governance and elections are conducted transparently and fairly.
