Dhaka, Sept 5 (V7N): Dr. Mohammad Azam has been appointed as the new Director General of the Bangla Academy, succeeding the previous leadership.

Currently an associate professor in the Department of Bengali at the University of Dhaka, Dr. Azam's appointment was confirmed by Khalil Ahmed, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture.

Dr. Azam, born on August 23, 1975, in Hatiya, Noakhali, received his undergraduate and master's degrees from Dhaka University’s Department of Bengali. He completed his PhD with research focused on the colonization and decolonization of the Bengali language.

His academic interests span literature, aesthetics, history, politics, and cultural studies. Dr. Azam has authored works such as 'Bangla o Promito Bangla Samachar' and edited volumes including 'Nirbachito Kabita: Syed Ali Ahsan' and 'Kobi o Kobitar Sandhane'.
