Dhaka, Sep 11 (V7N)- Hasnat Abdullah, a key coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has highlighted the country's deepening economic crisis, revealing that Tk1,100,000 crore has been laundered over the past 16 years. He called upon students to take the lead in eliminating extortion, terrorism, bribery, corruption, recruitment scams, and tender manipulation.

During a student-citizen exchange meeting held at the Bandarban Minority Cultural Institute's hall room on Wednesday, Abdullah addressed the student community, emphasizing that those involved in extortion and political tender manipulation should be rejected and expelled from the country, similar to how past fascist regimes were overthrown.

He stressed the importance of collaboration between students and the administration to eradicate these practices. “If the administration becomes people-oriented rather than power-oriented, figures like Harun and Benazir wouldn’t need to flee the country,” Abdullah remarked.

Recalling the pivotal role of students in movements such as the 1971 Liberation War, the 1990 anti-dictatorship movement, and the fight against the Sheikh Hasina government in 2024, he urged students to remain united and protect freedom based on consensus.

Abdullah also criticized previous dictatorial governments for undermining constitutional institutions, including the judiciary, legal system, and Election Commission, which eroded public trust. He reiterated that their struggle will persist until public confidence in these institutions is restored and the state is reorganized.

He also referenced a recent incident at the Secretariat involving a DC appointment, highlighting the sacrifice of Abu Sayeed, Mughdo, and Hridoy, who protested against the fascist regime and lost their lives in the process.
