Dhaka, Sep 12 (V7N) – Amanullah Khan, the founding chairman of United News of Bangladesh (UNB), has died at the age of 80. He passed away on Thursday at approximately 5 p.m. at United Hospital in the capital due to complications related to old age.

Khan, who was also the chairman of Cosmos Group of Companies, is survived by his wife, brothers, numerous close relatives, and many well-wishers.

His funeral prayer, or namaz-e-janaza, will be held after Jumma prayers on Friday at Azad Masjid in Gulshan, followed by his burial at Banani Graveyard.

Khan was a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh, having achieved his Chartered Accountant qualification from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan in 1969.

He founded UNB, Bangladesh’s leading news agency, in 1988 with the Associated Press (AP) as its primary news exchange partner. Khan was also the chairman of Cosmos Printing and Publishing Limited, known for its book publications and the Dhaka Courier, the oldest English newsweekly in Bangladesh.

In addition to his professional achievements, Khan was a prolific contributor to national dailies and news magazines on various issues. He was a member of the Commonwealth Journalists Association and participated in numerous international media conferences and seminars organized by entities such as the Commonwealth Press Union, Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies, AsiaNet, International Press Institute, and Asian Media Information and Communication Centre.

Khan was actively involved in advocacy groups like ADHUNIK (National Anti-smoking Organization) and was a Life Member of the Sandhani National Eye Donation Society.
