Dhaka, Sep 15 (V7N): Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin emphasized on Sunday that the discussions with the visiting US delegation focused solely on Bangladesh-US bilateral issues. He clarified that Bangladesh maintains separate bilateral platforms for discussions with each partner, stressing that the talks did not extend beyond topics pertinent to the relationship between Bangladesh and the United States.

In response to a TV journalist's question regarding claims of destabilization efforts by a neighboring country, the foreign secretary reiterated, "We have bilateral relationships with each country," and firmly stated that no such discussions had taken place regarding the neighboring country.

When asked about US Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu's visit to New Delhi before arriving in Dhaka, and whether any messages or discussions had occurred concerning India, the foreign secretary reiterated that matters between India and Bangladesh are handled through the respective high commissions in Dhaka and New Delhi. "These are the platforms for us to discuss any issues of bilateral interest," he added.

Jashim Uddin also highlighted the government's intent to foster mutually beneficial relationships with all countries.

Regarding the potential for a meeting between Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus and US President Joe Biden at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, the foreign secretary noted that the US President does not typically hold bilateral meetings during the UNGA. However, he mentioned that if schedules align during a reception, there may be a chance for an interaction.

The US delegation, led by Assistant Secretary for International Finance Brent Neiman and Assistant Secretary Donald Lu, reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing economic opportunities, strengthening institutional capacity, promoting human rights, and addressing climate risks in partnership with Bangladesh.
