Dhaka, Sep 16 (V7N)— Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan, Advisor to the Interim Government on Electricity, Energy and Mineral Resources, has urged authorities to cease the use of lethal weapons against common people. His comments came during a visit to the National Orthopedic Hospital and Rehabilitation Institute in Sherbangla Nagar, where he met those injured in the ongoing anti-discrimination movement.

Speaking to journalists on Sunday afternoon, Fawzul Kabir Khan stressed that the interim government's main priority is to rehabilitate the families of those who were injured or killed. "A complete list is being prepared for this purpose," he said.

He further condemned the use of deadly force against civilians, noting, "When I visited this hospital after the war, it was the Pakistani invading forces who had attacked our people. Now, it’s our own people causing this harm. It must stop."

Khan expressed particular concern over the use of firearms during protests, stating, "Most of the injured have been shot. In the past, when we were students, we faced batons. Now, it's bullets, as if the goal is to kill or cripple. This cannot be the reality in a free country."

He also emphasised the importance of ensuring proper care for the injured, mentioning that all patients reported receiving free and adequate treatment. Khan promised further financial support, saying, "I have asked the director for a list of those needing assistance. We will work at both the individual and governmental level to provide aid."

The interim government has already established a foundation to support the injured and their families, with assistance coming directly from the government and its advisers.

The anti-discrimination movement has seen a surge of violence in recent weeks, raising widespread concerns about the handling of civilian protests. Khan's remarks come as a call for restraint and humane treatment in a time of growing tension.
