New Delhi, Sep 19 (V7N) – A scheduled meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser of Bangladesh's interim government, will not take place during Modi’s visit to the United States, according to a report by Hindustan Times.

The Indian media outlet reported on Thursday that, despite an official request from Dhaka at the beginning of September for a meeting with Modi on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, the meeting will not be included in the Prime Minister’s busy itinerary.

The report highlights that Modi’s three-day visit to the US will be packed with engagements, including attending the Quad leaders' summit in Wilmington, Delaware, on September 21, and addressing the UN General Assembly on September 23. Additionally, Modi is expected to hold several bilateral meetings, but a session with Yunus is not on his schedule.

The proposed meeting was intended to address tensions in bilateral relations that have emerged following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in Bangladesh. However, it appears that the tight schedule of Modi’s visit has precluded this engagement.

Dr. Muhammad Yunus, who is set to visit New York from September 22 to 27 for the 79th General Assembly session, will thus not have the anticipated discussion with the Indian Prime Minister during this visit.
