Dhaka, Aug 20 (V7N) — The nomination submission phase for the 2025 elections of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) and respective hall unions concluded on Wednesday, with several prominent student organizations and alliances officially entering the race.
The nomination papers were submitted separately at the university’s Senate Building throughout the day under the supervision of the DUCSU Election Commission. According to university sources, the atmosphere remained largely peaceful, with student representatives and supporters seen accompanying their candidates in small processions.
Among the key contenders, the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chatra Dal (JCD) submitted a full panel of candidates, marking their intent to re-establish a strong presence in DU politics after years of limited activity.
The Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council, widely known as Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, also submitted a full panel led by Umaima Fatema. The panel is said to include candidates from various faculties and halls, representing a cross-section of the university’s student body.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Discrimination Student Union, a relatively new but vocal group on campus, submitted their panel emphasizing inclusivity, minority rights, and policy reform in university governance.
An alliance of independent student activists also submitted a united panel under the banner of the “Independent Student Unity Panel,” aiming to represent non-partisan voices and challenge the dominance of traditional student political groups.
Additionally, the Islami Chatra Andolon Bangladesh, the student wing of a religious political party, submitted their nomination papers with a focus on moral leadership and Islamic values in student politics.
The DUCSU and hall union elections are expected to take place later this year, with the final list of valid candidates to be announced following the scrutiny of nomination papers and the resolution of any objections. The upcoming elections are drawing considerable attention from students, faculty, and political observers alike, as they mark a critical test for democratic practices within the country’s oldest and most prestigious university.
Further announcements regarding the election schedule, campaign guidelines, and voting procedures are expected to be released by the DUCSU Election Commission in the coming days.
