Dhaka, Sep 20 (V7N) – Students and members of ethnic minority communities organized protests in Dhaka on Friday in response to clashes between two groups in Dighinala, Khagrachhari.

The demonstration commenced at 10 AM near the Raju Sculpture at Dhaka University, with protesters blocking the Shahbagh intersection around noon for approximately half an hour.

The protesters called for constitutional recognition for minority communities, effective implementation of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Land Commission, and an end to land grabbing disguised as tourism. They also demanded a strengthened Regional Council for the Chittagong Hill Tracts and a fair trial regarding the recent clashes in Dighinala.

Shankalerm Chakma, a sociology student at Dhaka University, stated, "A group is attacking ethnic minority communities to destabilize the country. Yesterday (Thursday), some miscreants attacked markets and homes in Dighinala, causing destruction and arson. They are still targeting us today. We seek a quick resolution and demand exemplary punishment for the criminals."

Khalid Monsur, officer in charge of Shahbagh police station, confirmed that some students blocked the intersection to protest the Dighinala incident and called for swift justice. The protesters maintained their presence for about 15 minutes before returning to the university area.
