Dhaka, Nov 22 (V7N)- The persistent rise in prices of daily necessities continues to trouble residents of the capital. From vegetables to spices, markets are experiencing discomforting hikes despite an increase in supply for some products.

A market visit on Friday revealed that winter vegetables such as cauliflower and cabbage are selling for 50-70 taka each, while prices for bitter gourd, tomatoes, and green chilies have surged by 10 to 20 taka per kg.

The situation is even more concerning in the onion and potato markets, where local onions now cost 150 taka per kg and potatoes remain above 70-75 taka per kg. Buyers have expressed frustration over the sharp increase, accusing market syndicates of manipulating prices.

In the spice market, the cost of cardamom, cumin, and chili peppers has risen to alarming levels. Traders attribute this spike to the rising dollar value, but buyers argue that much of the stock was imported earlier, and wholesale price manipulations are to blame for the cascading effect on retail markets.

Fish and meat prices also remain high, with Rui, tilapia, and pabda selling for 20-30 taka more than before.

The situation has sparked widespread dissatisfaction, with consumers urging authorities to take measures to curb syndicate activities and stabilize market prices.
