Dhaka, Dec 09 (V7N)- The price of bottled soybean oil has risen by Tk 8 per liter, taking the cost from Tk 167 to Tk 175, effective from today. The price hike was announced by Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin during a press briefing following a meeting with the Edible Oil Owners Association on Monday.

In addition to bottled oil, the price of open soybean oil has also been raised by Tk 8, now priced at Tk 157 per liter.

Explaining the decision, the advisor attributed the price hike to a supply crisis caused by rising costs in the international market. “The increase in global prices has led to this adjustment domestically to maintain the supply chain,” he said.

Bashiruddin also pointed out concerns about traders hoarding edible oil, which has exacerbated supply issues. To address this, he assured that monitoring efforts would be intensified to ensure the availability of oil in the market at the newly set prices.

The increase in edible oil prices is expected to have a cascading effect on household budgets, as soybean oil remains a staple in Bangladeshi kitchens.
