Dhaka, Feb 2 (V7N) – The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has been increased by Tk 19 per 12 kg cylinder for the month of February, raising the price to Tk 1,478 from Tk 1,459 in January.

Additionally, the price of autogas (LPG used in vehicles) has been raised by 89 paisa per liter, now set at Tk 67.74 per liter.

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced the new rates at a press conference on Sunday (February 2). The revised prices took effect from the evening of the same day.

Reason for Price Adjustment

BERC stated that the price adjustment was based on the Saudi Aramco Contract Price (CP) for propane and butane, which are key components of LPG.

For February:

  • Propane Price: $635 per metric ton
  • Butane Price: $625 per metric ton
  • Average Saudi CP: $628.50 per metric ton

With a propane-to-butane ratio of 35:65, the price of LPG in Bangladesh’s private sector has been recalculated accordingly.

Impact on Consumers

The price hike will increase household expenses, especially for those relying on LPG for cooking. Transport costs may also rise, as the cost of autogas directly affects CNG-converted vehicles.
