TOKYO, August 2 (V7N) — Nintendo has sold over six million units of its newly launched Switch 2 console within seven weeks of its June 5 debut, the company announced Friday. The strong early performance helped boost its April–June quarterly operating profit by 4% to ¥56.9 billion (approximately $378 million), surpassing market expectations.

The company maintained its forecast to sell 15 million units of Switch 2 during the financial year ending in March 2026. Launch titles such as Mario Kart World and an enhanced Legend of Zelda contributed to robust sales, with 8.67 million units of Switch 2 software sold in the quarter. The July 17 release Donkey Kong Bananza also received widespread acclaim with a Metacritic score of 92.

Nintendo stated that ongoing global trade tensions and U.S. tariffs have not significantly affected its earnings outlook. Analysts noted that the absence of competing blockbuster titles this year, such as the delayed Grand Theft Auto VI, could further help Nintendo sustain momentum through the holiday season.

Despite the strong sales, Nintendo's shares closed down 0.75% ahead of the earnings release, though the stock has gained around 33% so far this year.
