Mongla, Feb 15 (V7N) – The first-ever shipment of wheat from Argentina is being unloaded at Mongla Port. The ship, “MV Ellipda GR,” carrying 20,080 metric tons of wheat, anchored at the port's No. 7 buoy on Thursday, February 13. The wheat was part of an international tender import that began its journey from Argentina to Bangladesh.
Previously, the same vessel had offloaded 30,120 metric tons of wheat at the Port of Chittagong as part of a total shipment of 50,200 metric tons. The remaining wheat was transported to Mongla Port to complete the unloading process. The ship arrived at Mongla on Thursday afternoon to unload the remaining wheat after completing the necessary procedures at Chittagong.
On Friday, officials from the Mongla Food Controller’s Office, along with the ship's agents and other relevant authorities, conducted a sampling of the wheat. After conducting the necessary physical tests and completing customs formalities, the unloading process began at noon.
Assistant Food Controller Abdus Sobhahan Sardar confirmed that after 13,080 metric tons of wheat is stored in the silos at the port, the remaining 7,000 metric tons will be packed in bags and transported to various districts across the country, including Barisal, Khulna, and Baghabari.
This shipment is part of a larger wheat import program aimed at securing food supplies for the country, and it marks a significant step in increasing wheat imports through Mongla Port.
