The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has been changed upward by Tk 0.66, with the new cost being Tk 123.52 per kg, up from the previous Tk 122.86, according to an update from the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC). This price rise, which will result in a little increase in home and business expenditures, will take effect at 6 p.m. on Sunday.

At a news conference today, BERC provided specifics of the change, stating that a typical 12-kg LPG cylinder will now cost Tk 1482, inclusive of VAT, up from Tk 1474. With a range of LPG cylinder sizes from 5.5 kg to 45 kg, this adjustment makes sense on a logical scale and addresses the demand for a proportionate price revision across diverse customer categories.

In addition, there has been a change in the cost of "autogas," the LPG kind used in automobiles. It is currently Tk 68.05 per liter, including VAT, a little rise from Tk 67.68. This adjustment takes into account the wider effects of changes in LPG prices on transportation and associated expenses.

Notably, the LP Gas Company, a state-owned enterprise, will not raise its LPG pricing. This outlier is explained by the company's small market share—less than 5%—and its domestic manufacturing.

The decision to modify LPG pricing was made in response to growing expenses in the global market, particularly those associated with the rise in the Saudi CP (contract price), which is the benchmark for regional operators who import LPG mostly from the Middle East.
