Dhaka, May 30 (V7N) – With Eid al-Adha just around the corner, buyers are seeing stable prices for most essential items in the capital’s markets — except cardamom, which has seen a sharp rise in price this year.
A visit to Karwan Bazar on Friday (May 30) revealed that vegetables were being sold between Tk 30 and Tk 60 per kg, with a steady crowd despite morning rain, which disrupted overall market activity on the public holiday.
While rice and spice shops witnessed increased foot traffic in preparation for the Eid festivities, cardamom stood out for its soaring price — currently selling at Tk 1,500 to Tk 2,000 more per kg compared to last year. In contrast, other spices are priced lower than the previous year, providing some relief to consumers.
The rain also affected the fish market, with a drop in buyer turnout and supply, causing a slight price hike. Meanwhile, chicken prices rose by Tk 10 per kg, while the prices of beef and khasi (goat meat) remained unchanged.
Despite the weather disruptions, buyers are cautiously optimistic, hoping that the market remains stable through the festival period.
