Dhaka, Nov 14 (V7N) – The price of river fish in the capital’s markets has remained high, with hilsa particularly expensive due to low supply. A visit to various markets on Friday revealed that prices have not eased despite recent fluctuations.

Sellers attributed the high prices to the holiday season and ongoing supply shortages. “Long-distance transport has slowed down at night, which affects supply,” one vendor said. However, prices of eggs and chicken have remained largely stable.

In the fish market, Rui and Katla are being sold at 350 to 450 taka per kilogram depending on size, while prices of smaller fish are also rising. Hilsa remains beyond the reach of many middle-class families.

There is some relief in the egg market, a common source of affordable nutrition. A dozen red eggs are priced at 130 taka, white eggs at 120 taka per dozen, and duck eggs at 210 taka per dozen.

Broiler chicken continues to sell at 160 to 165 taka per kilogram, though holiday demand has pushed prices higher in some areas. Premium golden variety chicken is available at 300 taka per kilogram, while local chicken costs up to 600 taka per kilogram.

Meanwhile, beef is being sold at 750 taka per kilogram, and mutton at 1,150 taka per kilogram.
