At a recent discussion, livestock experts stressed the need to enhance milk production and consumption to tackle malnutrition and build a healthy society. They highlighted milk's critical role in both physical and mental development, especially for children, and called for measures to ensure fair pricing and safe supply of milk.

The discussion, organized by the District Administration and the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) Rajshahi, was held at the Deputy Commissioner's conference hall in celebration of "World Milk Day-2024." This event was supported by the Livestock and Dairy Development Project.

World Milk Day, celebrated annually on June 1, focuses this year on the theme of recognizing the dairy sector's crucial role in delivering quality nutrition globally. The aim is to promote understanding of dairy's contributions to good food, health, and nutrition.

Additional District Magistrate Mirja Imam Uddin and Additional Superintendent of Police Abu Saleh Muhammad Ashraful Alam attended as chief and special guests, respectively, with District Livestock Officer Dr. Zulfiker Muhammad Akhter Hossain presiding. Dairy farmers Muhammad Asaduzzaman and Foisal Bin Mamud also spoke, sharing their insights.

Dr. Ismail Haque, Deputy Director of the Dairy Development Farm, welcomed the participants. During his keynote presentation, Additional District Livestock Officer Dr. Fazley Rabbi emphasized the importance of milk consumption for building a healthy and knowledgeable nation, noting that protein from livestock is essential for brain development and overall health.

Dr. Zulfiker Muhammad Akhter Hossain provided an overview of milk production in the region, underscoring the importance of promoting the livestock sector to address protein deficiencies and ensure food security. He noted that many people suffer from malnutrition due to a lack of animal protein like milk, meat, and eggs. He highlighted the government's efforts under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to boost the livestock sector through the Livestock and Dairy Development Project (LDDP) to address protein deficiency.

Field level officials and staff were urged to support these government initiatives with dedication and integrity. The event also featured a colorful rally from the collectorate building premises to mark the day.
