Sylhet, Sep 10 (V7N) - This year, as in previous years, Sylhet Division has ranked third in remittance earnings from expatriates. For August of the current fiscal year, Bangladesh received $22.159 billion in remittances. Dhaka Division led with $10.7 billion, while Lalmonirhat district in Rangpur Division reported the lowest at $1.5 million. Sylhet Division remains in third place in the remittance rankings.
 
According to the latest data from the Bangladesh Bank, Chattogram and Dhaka divisions contribute the most to remittance inflows, while Rangpur Division contributes the least. In August alone, Bangladeshi expatriates sent $22.159 billion in remittances. Dhaka Division received $10.7 billion, Chattogram $6.077 billion, Sylhet $2.08 billion, Khulna $1.049 billion, Rajshahi $874 million, Mymensingh $484 million, Barishal $580 million, and Rangpur $386 million.
 
The central bank's data shows that the $22.159 billion sent in August is the highest amount recorded for that month in the past five fiscal years. Remittance inflows had decreased in July due to political unrest and the transition to an interim government. However, following the resignation of Sheikh Hasina and the formation of the interim government, expatriates increased their remittance transfers, leading to higher figures for August 2024-25.
 
Top Five Districts for Remittance:
 
According to Bangladesh Bank data, Dhaka District received the highest remittance, followed by Chattogram, Sylhet, Comilla, and Noakhali. Dhaka District received $7.133 billion in August, Chattogram $1.878 billion, and Comilla surpassed Noakhali and Sylhet with significant amounts. Other notable figures include $255 million in Barishal, $210 million in Jessore, and $186 million in Bogura.
 
Districts with Lowest Remittance:
In August of the 2024-25 fiscal year, the districts with the lowest remittance earnings were Lalmonirhat, Rangamati, Joypurhat, Panchagarh, and Khagrachari. Lalmonirhat had the lowest remittance at just $1.5 million.
