Dhaka, Nov 11 (V7N) — Students of Dhaka University held a human chain protest on Monday afternoon, opposing recent advisor appointments to the interim government. The protest, organized in front of the university’s iconic Raju Statue, centered around allegations that these appointments were made without adequate public and student participation and included figures linked to prior “fascist alliances.”

The students voiced dissatisfaction with the lack of transparency and engagement in the selection process. “The student community will not accept appointments made without public and student involvement. Posting a few comments on Facebook cannot qualify someone as an advisor,” said a student spokesperson, referencing recent social media activity by certain appointees as their only visible qualification.

Protesters also criticized perceived regional biases in the appointments, noting the absence of representation from North Bengal and expressing concerns over foreign influences. They alleged that certain figures with ties to foreign interests, particularly those close to India, had been invited to take advisory positions, which they described as “dishonest to the spirit of the coup.”

Additionally, the anti-fascist Revolutionary Student Movement held a parallel protest outside the National Press Club, demanding the immediate removal of Sheikh Bashir Uddin from the advisory council. “The blood of the martyrs of the July-August movement has not yet dried, and those injured are still bearing the scars. Appointing a controversial figure accused in a case undermines the sacrifices of the martyrs,” stated a speaker.

Both student groups have warned of an intensified movement if their concerns are not addressed within 24 hours, underscoring the students’ commitment to ensuring that their voices are heard in the governance of the country.
